Lightning @ Hurricanes – Game 3 – Hurricanes Puck Line +1.5 (1.58 | -172)

The Canes head to Tampa down two games to none where they’ll likely be fighting for their playoff lives tonight. If the Lightning can grab hold of a 3 game lead, this series is pretty much over. The good news for the Hurricanes is that momentum could start to shift their way sooner rather than later.

The Hurricanes have been stymied by Andre Vasilevskiy all series long. Carolina is a top tier team at getting scoring chances from the slot (16.8 slot shots per game, good for 2nd among playoff teams) however, the Vezina finalist has shut the door. He’s posted the best slot save percentage among playoff goalies with a .897 average and has saved 0.76 goals above expected per game against the Hurricanes; that’s nearly an entire goal he’s taken off the board in the first two contests. If the Hurricanes stay the course, we expect them to break through very soon.

Another area of the Lightning’s game that the Hurricanes need to slow down is their lethal powerplay. Even if they didn’t convert on the man advantage last game, Tampa relies on special teams to generate offence. The Lightning have not created a ton of opportunities offensively but a powerplay that’s clicking at 36.0% can easily help teams overachieve.

All signs point to tonight’s +1.5 Puck Line to be a strong play as the Canes look to get back in the win column.
