Bruins @ Capitals – Game 1 – Over 5.5 Goals (2.05 | +125)

It’s been a grueling season filled with uncertainty but we made it. Welcome to Playoff hockey! The B’s and Caps kick things off tonight and we should expect to see some offensive fireworks.

Both teams finished in the top tier in Expected Goals Against during the regular season however when they faced off, Washington, as well as Boston, saw a significant increase in quality scoring chances. The Caps have seen success against the Bruins by pressing their defence hard. Boston is a top 10 team at defending the cycle, denying rebound chances, and preventing scoring chances off of the forecheck. With that being said, Washington has their number as they see a significant increase in those types of opportunities against Boston.

If you want some underdog playoff heroics tonight, look no further than Lars Eller. He trails only Alexander Ovechkin for the team lead in Individual Expected Goals Total against the Bruins with 2.34. Eller has tallied 3 goals and 15 shots on net (10 of which came from the slot) in the season series.

Time and space just seem to disappear during Playoff hockey but the value and the numbers have inclined us to side with the over on this play. The 5.5 goal total has hit in 6 of the 8 meetings between these two teams this year.
