Power Plays – May 13

LogiqBets’ Power Plays give you a deeper look into tonight’s most valuable plays. All selections are made by our team of Hockey experts and are backed with the most advanced data and betting models in the business.

Power Plays record: 55-40

Heavy Money Line favorites: COL (72.7%)

Kings @ Avalanche – Avalanche Money Line (1.25 | -400) or Avalanche Puck Line -1.5 (1.71 | -141)

Don’t let the juice scare you off of this play. The Avalanche are going to do everything in their power to get the W tonight and secure the President’s Trophy. Avs players are not only playing for bragging rights here but a pretty hefty bonus that comes with capturing the league title so they have just as much to lose here than any of us.

Full marks to the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs for putting up a good fight but it’s fitting that the Avalanche take home the hardware. Colorado ranks in the top 3 across every single one of our advanced defensive metrics which include Slot Shots Against, Slot Pass Completions Against, Rush Chances Against, Cycle Chances Against, Rebound Chances Against, and Forecheck Chances Against. Keep in mind that we haven’t even started to talk about Nathan Mackinnon and the offence.

The reason for Colorado’s defensive success isn’t because they park the bus and play the trap. They’ve dominated on defence because they’re unstoppable on offence. The Avs can sustain pressure in the O-Zone better than any team in the league which is why they lead the NHL in Cycle Chances with an average of 12.9 a game. We can find a ton of people that will argue that a good offence doesn’t make for a good defence but the bottom line is that your opponents can’t score on you if they never have the puck. This philosophy is much easier said than done but the Avalanche have found a way to make it happen which is why they will be crowned as the best team of the 2021 NHL regular season.
