Powerplays – March 11

Panthers @ Blue Jackets – Panthers Moneyline (1.80)

The Cats take on a Blue Jackets team that’s struggling to create offense in the second game of their triple-header. The Panthers have the edge across all of our key metrics (offense, defense, and goaltending) and are 61.1% Moneyline favorites according to our model.

Look for that 1st powerplay unit to stay hot as the Panthers rank 5th in the league in PP Expected Goals while Torts’ PK comes in at 27th in Expected Goals Against. Limiting odd-man rushes is another area of the game the Blue Jackets will have to keep an eye on as they currently rank 28th in Even Strength Odd-Man Rushes Against. The Panthers sit 1st creating those types of scoring chances.

Canadiens @ Flames – Canadiens Moneyline (2.00)

The books are giving us some pretty good odds on a “Price-less” Habs team tonight in a back-to-back game situation. Little do they know that Jake Allen has been stellar this season and that the Habs own a 2-1-1 record in back-to-back games.

Since Dom Ducharme took over the reins in Montreal, the Habs are 2nd in the league in Even-Strength Expected Goals Against and 1st in Even-Strength Inner Slot Shots Against. They’ve been phenomenal in their own end and Alex Burrows has revived their lackluster powerplay (5th in Powerplay Expected Goals For). To sum it all up, don’t sleep on the new-look Habs.
